Am I a symptom or am I the disease?

Our world is so fractured.
Social media communicates and obfuscates.
I am in a hall of mirrors
And everything I see is ugly.
Am I a symptom or am I the disease?

We see a leader with no convictions.
We see brutalization of peaceful protesters.
Some or most of us are appalled.
We see our democracy crumbling.
Am I a symptom or am I the disease?

We have become so divided.
But I guess we always were.
Through George Floyd.
I hope we will be united.
Am I a symptom or am I the disease?

He loves to double down.
Don't know the difference.
Between a smile and a frown.
All news is fake news if you do not agree.

 He's a repulsive false preacher.
A truly vile creature.
His best foot forward
Is to repress his critics.

He is a slimy little worm.
Wish he was never confirmed.
Especially since he cheated.
He was never popular.

Still we go on with this charade.
With the king who was not self-made.
These are the worst of times.
His are the worst of crimes.

Beautiful day in Michigan

Beautiful day in Michigan.
Sometimes we have them.
All the elements coalesce.
Sun wind and sky make us glad to be alive.

Beautiful day in Michigan.
Hope you are all listening.
I love our great state.
We live in the land of plenty.

Beautiful day in Michigan.
The Motor City survives.
We are the land of abundance.
We only need to unify.

We are all hoarders

We are all hoarders.
Because we don't know the borders.
Between Today and Tomorrow.
When will end all our sorrow.

We are all hoarders.
Saving up for never.
Any future date.
Will have to wait and wait.

We are all hoarders.
Storing up our reserves.
We allow ourselves any food.
Whatever it takes to kill the mood.

We are all hoarders.
Not the first responders.
But we are looking for answers.
We're just wannabe belongers.

The River

The river calls for the living as it calls for the dead.
The river is for taking and giving.
We do not say the river is a monster.
That would be ludicrous.

The river is just nature.
Neither lover nor hater.
The river does not care for sentiment.
The river just fulfills its intention.

The river is older than humans.
The river is true to itself.
Unlike we selfish vain fools.
Who only ever think of ourselves.

The emperor has no clothes

The emperor has no clothes.
I mean, they're hand me downs.
He squandered all his fortunes.
He lost more than he ever earned.

He is a tragic Greek figure.
Except he is comedic.
Because he never takes things seriously.
Unless it affects him personally.

Hubris is his sigil.
With he guards with vigil.
I wish I were watching a Greek play.
Instead of this idiotic display.

But we can't go to the theater.
Can't even get near.
Any human being for fear.
Of transmission.

The danger would be far less.
If the emperor had seen fit to lead.
Instead of just thinking about his plate.
And what would make him look great.

I create my own happiness.
I am a master of it.
I always know the right thought.
Can always find it all for naught.

In the midst of misery I find hope.
But as life takes a good turn.
I prepare to watch it all burn.
I create my own dark shadow.

I create my own unhappiness.
There is nothing worse the mind conceives.
In the end it is not what happens to us.
It is what we believe.
